Our History
What we stand for
Chennai Food Bank is a charitable program of RYA Madras Metro Trust, a registered Public Charitable Trust in India, headquartered in Chennai.
RYA Madras Metro Trust under it’s flagship Chennai Food Bank program has the core objective of Working For a Hunger Fee World since 1993.
Our journey since 1993
A journey of Service Through Fellowship started by a group of young Rajasthani’s to serve the needy. In the year 1993, 13 charitable institutions were given a helping hand to provide one time meal to all the inmates and today Chennai Food Bank is supporting more than 100 orphanages, old age homes, homes for mentally challenged, and differently abled people feeding more than 15,000 inmates & distributing more than 10000 kgs of food grains every month.
Our stringent processes
RYA Madras Metro Trust is a certified ISO 9001 – 2015 NGO. Under our flagship program Chennai Food Bank we have adopted quality & process as the fulcrum as we believe in providing good quality food grains to the needy. We believe everyone deserves good quality food as basic necessity.
Our landmark events
Our unique distinction is the “Apna Bana Lo” event organised for the needy children. Providing a day full of fun, joy, happiness & entertainment combined with delicious food for more than 10,000 children from various orphanages in and around Chennai at Kishkinta Theme Park & a divine journey to Tirupathi respectively for 1008 children from different orphanages & special children who had a joy filled trip in a special chartered train and had the blissful darshan of Lord Balaji. Most of the children had the experience of travelling in a train for the first time. This was our small effort to bring happiness in the life of God’s own children. We continue working towards this annual even to spread more smiles to the needy children.
Other mega events we are proud of
During the year 2013 – 2014, we had a continuous screening of a Tamil movie on a single day at Pilot Theatre, Chennai for more than 2000 children from various beneficiaries and provided them with scrumptious food. For some children watching a movie was a first time experience.
During the year 2014 we organized a camp at Avvai Home, Chennai where around 800 children from our beneficiaries had a joyful day of entertainment by Kollywood star Madan Bob and his troupe and the children experienced the best entertainment evening of their lives which was followed by delicious lunch.

Process we follow
We collect food grains from donors and distribute it to needy people. We also raise funds for the same and adopt institutions and support them all year.
We have also been in the forefront in providing food grains during natural calamities in various parts of the country. Generous individuals and families set apart a fistful of food grain everyday in special containers for charity. We collect the containers on a monthly basis covering nearly 20 different routes all over Chennai in our own vehicles. With the erstwhile Muthi Bhar Anaj Scheme and the Adopt A Child Scheme we have mobilised around 5000 kgs of food grains every month. These food grains are then cleaned, repacked and distributed.
Besides this regular collection we also get bulk donations in the form of food grains or monetary donations referred to as Akshaypatra Scheme which is utilised for purchase of food grains. Donors can dedicate a date for donation and we supply a month long ration to the needy institution on behalf of the donor. We reach out to needy people not only in Chennai but also to other places thereby reaching beyond reach. Our beneficiaries include homes from Kanchipuram, & Vandavasi.
Our donors can adopt Institutions for the year by contributing based on size of institution under the Annadata Scheme. People willing to contribute any amounts to the RYA Madras Metro Trust can also contribute towards the general fund under Annadanam Scheme, all for a single cause of eradicating the problem of hunger. Now Chennai Food Bank is reaching beyond humans by contributing towards the welfare of the animals under Animal Welfare Scheme. At RYA Madras Metro Trust under the Chennai Food Bank program, we are committed to an annual donation of more than six tons grains to animal welfare.
